Hello! My name is Louise Hawson. I’m a Sydney based photographer and writer/blogger.

What do I photograph?

Commercially I work for a variety of clients around Australia as a lifestyle, food, documentary and travel photographer. They value my ‘eye’, passion and commitment – I won’t stop until I get the shot. My clients also appreciate the fact that I’m versatile and able to capture a mix of things, including people, landscapes, interiors, architecture and food.

My clients range from small business and individuals to corporates such as Westfield and CBRE, and government bodies including City of Sydney, Destination NSW and the Department of Family and Community Services.

My personal work focuses on satisfying my curiosity about the world. I began my career as a photographer after completing two major photographic projects, 52 Suburbs (Sydney) and 52 Suburbs Around the World. They both started as blogs and evolved into published books as well as two four-month long solo exhibitions at the prestigious Museum of Sydney.

Why do I photograph?

The camera is my ultimate tool. I’m curious about many things on this extraordinary planet, from different cultures and people to the environment around us, and I use my camera to help me explore them. I also use it to communicate what I find beautiful or fascinating, and to connect with people I might otherwise never interact with. And lastly, it’s really a form of meditation where I think of nothing else but what I’m seeing. I love it!
