My name is Louise Hawson. I’m a lifestyle and travel photographer (and occasional writer/blogger) based in Sydney, Australia.
What do I photograph?
Commercially I work for a variety of clients around Australia who value my ‘eye’, passion and commitment. They also appreciate my versatility and ability to capture a mix of things, from landscapes and architecture/interiors to people and food.
My aim is to find the beauty and romance, even in the ‘ordinary’ everyday, to capture a mood, to elicit a feeling from the viewer. Small details – a bird in full flight or the way a person walks – can take an image from average to something that moves and excites you.
My personal work focuses on satisfying my curiosity about the world. I began my career as a photographer after completing two major photographic projects, 52 Suburbs (Sydney) and 52 Suburbs Around the World. They both started as blogs and evolved into published books as well as two four-month long solo exhibitions at the prestigious Museum of Sydney.
Why do I photograph?
I’m obsessed with beautiful natural light, the way it transforms everything in our world. My camera enables me to celebrate and share this. I’m also curious about many things on this extraordinary planet, from different cultures and people to the environment around us, and I use my camera to help me explore them. And lastly, photography is a form of meditation to me, where I think of nothing else but what I’m seeing. I love it!
